About us

The history of the Ruffo family dates back over 1000 years when, according to the “Cronaca Cassinese” (the Chronicle of Montecassino), an alliance was formed between the emperor of Constantinople, the Ruffos and the house of Giulliani, with the intention of integrating the regions of Puglia and Calabria. Central among many distinguished members of this historic family, was Pietro Ruffo who was born in 1118 and who would be nominated Cardinal by Pope Gelasius II during the reign of Frederick II of Svevia. Throughout the centuries the Ruffo family has striven to improve the agricultural status of their lands, placing particular emphasis on producing crops whose properties are deemed compatible with the simple yet exquisite recipes which the southern part of Italy has become famous for. Born into such time honoured traditions and with a mind to develop and improve what their ancestors created, Alessandro Ruffo di Calabria and his sister Imara have decided that this the moment to bring their cultural inheritance to the outside world and to share the culinary legacy of which they are so proud of.
